Terms

By using Telephone, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the site. Last updated August 16, 2026.

The service

Telephone is an experimental weekly whisper chain operated as a cultural project, not a commercial platform. Features, cadence, and availability may change or stop without notice.

Participation

You must participate in good faith. One person holds the message at a time. Turns are time-limited. You may take one turn per message per day. Queue rules, claim windows, and notification timing are enforced automatically—attempts to bypass them may result in losing your place.

Your content

You’re responsible for what you type. By passing a message or submitting a seed suggestion, you grant Telephone a non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, modify (including through drift and translation), display, and archive that text as part of the public experiment. Suggestions are reviewed before any future use.

Moderation

Content is filtered automatically and may be blocked before it’s passed on. If your submission violates these terms or our standards, you may lose your turn or be removed from the queue without refund or compensation—there is no fee, but the same principle applies.

No accounts

There are no user accounts, passwords, or guaranteed persistence of identity across devices. Display names and optional backup codes are convenience features, not proof of identity.

Disclaimers

Telephone is provided “as is.” We don’t guarantee uninterrupted access, accurate transcription, or that audio, SMS, or third-party services will always work. The experiment may contain errors, delays, or lost turns.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Telephone and its operator aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to what you paid us—which, for a free experiment, is zero.

Changes

We may revise these terms. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the province in which the project operator is resident, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
